Our mission is to protect and preserve cultural
resources such as sacred sites, archaeological sites, historical sites, resource gathering areas, cultural landscapes, burial sites, and American Indian traditional places.
ACTIVITIES AND SERVICES
Compile and maintain
lists of archaeological sites or other appropriate cultural resources that are
threatened, preserved, or destroyed.
Provide peer review and
preservation consultation services.
Nominate the most
significant archaeological sites to the National Register of Historic Places
and the California Register of Historic Properties.
Obtain available funding
for the preservation of cultural resources.
Promote public education
and interest in cultural resource preservation.
Provide cultural resource
preservation input to appropriate State, Federal, and local agencies.
Establish and promote
communication networks for cultural resource preservation.
Promote stewardship
programs for cultural resource sites.
Establish and promote
forums for discussion of cultural resource preservation.
Consider appropriate
actions to defend and protect significant cultural resources.
Educate decision makers
and the public regarding the nature and importance of archaeological sites.
Work with local agencies,
planners, and developers so that they are aware of preservation options early
in the planning process.
