Our mission is to protect and preserve cultural resources such as sacred sites, archaeological sites, historical sites, resource gathering areas, cultural landscapes, burial sites, and American Indian traditional places.

• _{Compile and maintain lists of archaeological sites or other appropriate cultural resources that are threatened, preserved, or destroyed.}
• _{Provide peer review and preservation consultation services.}
• _{Nominate the most significant archaeological sites to the National Register of Historic Places and the California Register of Historic Properties.}
• _{Obtain available funding for the preservation of cultural resources.}
• _{Promote public education and interest in cultural resource preservation.}
• _{Provide cultural resource preservation input to appropriate State, Federal, and local agencies.}
• _{Establish and promote communication networks for cultural resource preservation.}
• _{Promote stewardship programs for cultural resource sites.}
• _{Establish and promote forums for discussion of cultural resource preservation.}
• _{Consider appropriate actions to defend and protect significant cultural resources.}
• _{Educate decision makers and the public regarding the nature and importance of archaeological sites.}
• _{Work with local agencies, planners, and developers so that they are aware of preservation options early in the planning process.}
